Exciting Opportunity at Erewash Voluntary Action: Community Development Strategic Lead.

 

Location: Erewash, with office base in Long Eaton

Hours: 22 per week, including some weekend and evening work where necessary

Salary: £33,699 per annum (FTE). Actual salary for 22 hours per week (0.6 FTE): £20,219.40 p/a.    

 

Contract: Until March 2028 (possibility of extension dependent on funding)

The Role:

The Community Development Strategic Lead plays a pivotal role in connecting community insight with strategic action ensuring learning and opportunities are shared across the wider Erewash area. The role will lead the collection, analysis and translation of community insight, drawing on intelligence from local residents, partners, EVA teams and learning from across Derbyshire through the Sport England Place Partnership programme.

Providing line management to the Kirk Hallam Community Development Officer, the post will ensure that local knowledge, lived experience and community voice are effectively captured and used to shape strategic conversations, influence decision-making and drive meaningful change. By bringing together insight from communities, partners and the wider system, the role will help identify emerging themes, understand what is changing, and support the development of collaborative solutions that improve outcomes for local people and strengthen community wellbeing and supporting people to move in everyday life.

 

As the Community Development Officer Strategic Lead you will:

  • Support the Strategic development of the EVA Community Development team.

  • Lead strategic planning processes with community stakeholders and partners

  • Identify emerging social, economic, and environmental trends impacting the community.

  • Facilitate inclusive engagement processes ensuring diverse voices are represented.

  • Support community-led decision-making and co-production models.

  • Ensure projects align with strategic priorities and funding requirements.

  • Monitor outcomes and evaluate social impact.

  • Develop sustainability strategies for long-term community impact.

  • Advocate for change in policy and practice based on community needs and evidence.

  • Manage training for members and groups in the Kirk Hallam community including Community Organising.

  • Work with partners to develop and implement sustainable models for community engagement. 

  • Provide support and professional development to the Community Development team, ensuring they have the tools and resources needed to engage effectively with communities. 

  • Work closely with the Community Development team and wider Sport England leadership team to understand and make sense of community insight. 

  • Support the development of frameworks to capture, analyse, and sense-make community insight. 

  • Connect and translate learning from community insight so it can be used to influence strategic decision-making and determine local practice/approaches to delivery. 

  • Ensure the Erewash Community Wellness Approach is reflected across all work streams - based on the key principles of trusting communities, local decision making and asset based community development.

  • Participate and advocate for wider place-based working across Erewash.

The Role:

This role aims to build community and voluntary capacity in Kirk Hallam, using insight from the Sport England Place Partnership (and wider system). This role supports grassroots groups to grow, strengthening local leadership and community‑led delivery. It contributes directly to sustainability by increasing the skills, confidence and organisational resilience of local groups.

 

As the Community Development Officer (Kirk Hallam), you will:

  • Advocate and support the local VCSE sector by driving growth and enhancing the reach of groups and organisations across Erewash.

  • Coordinate development activities for new and established community groups.

  • Provide expert advice, support, and funding guidance to voluntary and community organisations.

  • Represent EVA within wider Erewash system partnerships and contribute to EVA's ongoing development.

  • You will play an important role in building the capacity, confidence and resilience of local communities, helping people and community organisations develop the skills, knowledge and connections they need to create positive change.

  • You will also support and enable volunteers to play an active role in their communities, recognising their skills and experience, helping them develop their confidence and creating meaningful opportunities for them to contribute.

Who We're Looking For:

  • Exceptional communication and organisation skills.

  • Experience in community development and a track record of working with diverse groups.

  • Knowledge of the voluntary and community sector, including the challenges of loneliness and social isolation.

  • A strong belief in the value of the voluntary and community sector.

  • Flexibility to work varying hours and travel within Erewash.

  • Computer literacy and familiarity with Microsoft Office and social media.
